It's the wave of the future and I think it's great exposure for Martinek, an outstanding player who fits perfectly in a Rutgers uniform, whether he's playing in the offensive backfield or on defense. Just ask Indian Hills how good he is -- remember Martinek's performance in the opening round of last season's North 1, Group 2 playoffs when he rushed for 376 yards and four touchdowns on 15 carries against the Braves.

With a yard-by-yard countdown toward the state's career rushing record on the site, the bull's-eye on Martinek will get larger and larger with each passing down. From all accounts, he's the type of player who will respond under pressure. I certainly wish he was in our coverage area -- what a great story.

And what a challenge to any team that faces Hopatcong, a list that could include some of North Jersey's best in Pascack Valley, Tenafly, Westwood or Demarest down the line come November, maybe even December. Let the countdown begin.
