Just the stats:

Martinek rushed for a school-record 396 yards and touchdown runs of 77, 75, 35 and 15 yards in a 34-12 victory over Jefferson on Saturday. The 2005 All-State back is closing in on the state career rushing record of 6,720 yards set in 2003 by Kenny Cattouse of Keyport. Martinek has 6,439, 281 fewer than Cattouse. Hopatcong is host to Sparta on Friday and Kittatinny the following Friday. Martinek has rushed for 939 yards and eight TDs this season.

Coach's comments: Hopatcong coach Paul Reduzzi: "Joe ran really strong. Jefferson did a good job attacking at the line, but Joe never stopped moving his feet. He got a ton of yards after the first hit. Our guys up front did a much better job staying on blocks."

On the rushing record: "People don't always realize that for a running back or a quarterback to be successful they have to have good people around them," Martinek said. "For me to achieve something like this takes a great supporting cast."

Best football experience: The state final last year, when Hopatcong came from behind to beat Sparta, 20-14 in overtime, in the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 1, Group 2 final. "Knowing we came back, mentally as well as physically, after being behind at halftime."

Favorite pro football team: Minnesota Vikings. "I've always liked them since I was little. I don't know why."

If not football or track: Golf.

Favorite music: 1980s Rock. "The stuff my dad grew up with. Metallica is one of my favorites."

Favorite TV show: "The Family Guy."

Favorite movie: "Forrest Gump." "We watched it on the bus on the way to the state final at Rutgers Stadium last year."

Favorite book: "The DaVinci Code," by Dan Brown.

Three guests for dinner: Ronald Reagan, Al Pacino and Daniel "Rudy" Ruettiger, upon whom the movie "Rudy" was based.

College: He gave his verbal to Rutgers last month.
