The best college football story of the weekend belongs to Rutgers RB Joe Martinek of Hopatcong, N.J. He set the New Jersey career prep rushing record by rushing for 7,589 yards. He chose Rutgers even though the depth chart already had Kordell Young and Mason Robinson.

After both of those players went down with injuries, Martinek got his chance against South Florida last Saturday and rushed for 98 yards and two touchdowns. His parents, Joe and Roxanne, unaware their son would see significant playing time, flew down to the Sunshine State to celebrate their 21st wedding anniversary.

They got some quality fun in the sun and got to see their son, who was on the scout team last week, prove it at the highest level of college football.

"I was thinking a couple of days before the game that I'd like to do something for them for all the times they drove me to practices, games, clinics all over the state," Martinek told The Post. "I'm just glad I got a chance to contribute."
